"RUNNING THROUGH SHADOWS"
WRITTEN BY: DAVID VICTOR PAVON
Forget what we set out for, I can feel it’s more
Then we halt, people gaze, then you graze away
You are always leaving me wanting more
Which leaves us without a way to be open
I’m tired of this closet
Can’t you see these walls closing in on me
I can’t deal, won’t deal with it anymore!
Tu eres todo en mi!
It hurts to see the shame in your eyes
I suffer, we both suffer in silence
This is me and we are us
If you can’t deal with us
Then this romance is a bust
Are you really just fulfilled with lust?
I thought this was deep
I swear you were deeper
Don’t let this affair be stifled.
This is who we are
At this point I don’t care who knows
As long as we know what we feel inside
What I feel is pure love
I don’t care what your mother, brother, father, sister,
primo, homeboy, pasteur, priest or tea party says
We are who we are
I am not ashamed of who I am
You can stay closeted and down low
For all the wrong people
For all of the wrong reasons
Yet only we will suffer
What we have is so right
And you listen to them say we are wrong
What about you?
I know you feel this passion inside
I know it’s what makes you feel so alive
Why do you choose to void yourself of happiness?
Aren’t you tired of running through shadows
Feeling guilty and shallow?
Why must we let the world override us?
Strip our freedom’s away and hide us
What about our liberty?
What about our choice?
What about our love?
Is it this fear that makes you stay in the closet?
And for what, fear of your families disapproval?
Fear for being who you are?
Fear for being different?
Fear for not being macho?
Fear for loving me?
Fear of being a homo, fag, queer or joto?
I say who cares what they will say
Think, label, define, categorize or call you
Your gay and you were born this way!!!

-(*This poem is about being in a gay closeted relationship. There is much truth about my first gay romances through out this entry. I often felt outcast and alienated when ever my sexuality was questioned. I always kept my love affairs in the shadows along with the down low guys I fell for. I hope we as people can accept ourselves for who and what we are. I also hope you can accept others for who and what they are, no matter the differences. Like the last line in my poem and as Gaga pledges"you were born this way"!!!
It's the simplicity of the message that is so truthful.
Be you, Be ICONIC ;-)
